After showing off the game for many, many months Namco Bandai has finally announced the release date for the highly anticipated Tekken Tag Tournament 2 in a press release. Fans of the series and of fighting games in general can expect to pick up their copy of the game September 10, 2012. TTT2 will come shipped updated with all of the character balances that are on the arcade version of the game and new modes. The first new mode is 1v1, which is just regular Tekken but using the TTT2 balances. The next mode is 1v2 or handicapped mode as I like to call it. Here one person can fight a team alone. Pair Play is one of the newer features in which four players can each control a fighter (similar to SF X T). The last of the new modes is called Fight Lab. Fight Lab is basically the training mode but players can customize the looks and moves of the training partner known as Combot.
In addition to all these new features, day one DLC, in the form of extra fighters, has been announced. Now before you start to yell out “OMG SCAMCO TRYING TO BE CRAPCOM!1!1 YOU THE SUXZZ!1!1”, here’s what Tekken Project director Katsuhrio Harada has to say:
Pleasing our fans is of paramount importance to the Tekken development team, therefore we are giving players full access to the wide array of fighters in TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 at no additional cost. The roster of playable characters in any fighting game is an essential factor in contributing to a player’s overall experience. By offering DLC characters at no additional cost to players, we are able to deliver a pure TEKKEN experience to all of our fans.
Looking at everything that TTT2 is offering, I think Namco is trying to make the game as tournament friendly as possible. Which is great for those who are in the FGC and those who love Tekken. Again the game is set to release September 10.

TEKKEN shattered fighting game genre barriers when it unveiled tag based combat with the release of TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT™ in 1999. TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 continues to break boundaries with the introduction of one-on-one fighting and solo fighter vs. a tag-team battle. These new modes provide additional gameplay options for seasoned TEKKEN fans while providing an easier point of access to new players.
Additional modes include Pair Play, where up to four players can each control a character in the ultimate team battle and the new Fight Lab mode, which allows players to customize the moves and appearance of their training partner known as Combot. Players that clear the Fight Lab mode will have mastered the complexities of TEKKEN and will gain access to their own customizable Combot.
