Question of the Month: What's Your Most Anticipated Game For 2012?
Posted on January 31, 2012 by OG

Our first Question of the Month for 2012 has the staff answering what is their most anticipated game for 2012.

I’m really dying to play the new Tomb Raider game from Crystal Dynamics. After seeing it in action at last year’s E3, and seeing how Crystal Dynamics has placed more emphasis on survival and exploration than “tomb raiding” I’m looking forward to learning more about the game, especially the crafting system and skill tree that lets Laura hone in on different skills to survive. Also, having a younger inexperienced Laura will make for tense cinematic moments as we see how she became the heroine we all know. - Mike V.

Tales of Graces F

August 2008 marked the last time a title in the Tales series (Tales of Vesperia) launched in North America. Since then, fans of the franchise have been left wanting as there have been no new localization attempts to satiate their appetite. With the upcoming release of the Tales of the Abyss remake for the 3DS and Tales of Graces F  for the Playstation 3, the long wait is finally over. As a longtime fan of the franchise, I can safely say that Graces, which is losing publicity to Mass Effect 3 due to its March release, is my most anticipated game of the year. The series itself has had its ups and downs to say the least, however, the polish of Tales of Vesperia has me excited. While the story had its minor flaws, it weaved an enjoyable experience throughout, specifically through its character interactions, an aspect the series as a whole is known for better than other areas. If the same amount of polish is added to Graces, the wait may actually be worth it in the end. - Wayne

Kid Icarus Uprising

My most anticipated game for the year (at least until it drops in March) is Kid Icarus Uprising for the Nintendo 3DS.  First of all, it is something new from the Big N.  Considering its been just over two decades since the last Kid Icarus game, he might as well be considered a new character.  Second, it is a rail shooter, and since we probably won't see a new Starfox game for another five years I need to take the opportunity to get my pew pew pew on.  Finally, it isn't a sequel to a recent game, and that is always a Good Thing in my book. - Eduardo

Bioshock Infinite

I absolutely adored Bioshock. It was a perfect blend of action, suspense, unique mechanics, creative thinking and most importantly a brilliantly crafted plot from Ken Levine.  Bioshock: Infinite sees Ken and his team return to the fold after a somewhat lukewarm reception for Bioshock2 and I can’t wait to see where they will go with this one.  In Bioshock Infinite the playground has been moved from the ruins under the sea to a floating megacity in its heyday. It is obvious that a lot of the mechanics will be carried over with tonics replacing plasmids and the saviour system introduced in Bioshock looks like it will be much more ingrained, with your companion Elizabeth being at your side for, what I presume, will be most of the game. The most interesting aspect of the new setting has got to be the fact that the floating city of Columbia appears to be on the precipice of civil war and that you will spend the game trying to protect Elizabeth from at least two warring factions who want to get their dirty little mitts on your ward for, presumably, very different reasons. - Wayne

Resident Evil 6

Deciding on my most anticipated game for 2012 has me a bit torn.  On the one hand, I’m incredibly excited for The Last Story, since Project Ico can do no wrong in my eyes.  But on the other hand, we have Resident Evil 6 and I can’t express how big of a RE fan I am.   Ever since it’s horribly-voiced beginnings, there hasn’t been a RE game that I haven't loved.  Even the lightgun Chronicles gamers were entertaining. The irony of a Resident Evil-House of the Dead type game after House of the Dead stole the whole RE idea to make a lightgun game is too good.  Anyways, since I have to choose, I’m going with RE 6.  Even though there probably will not be any sort of closure on anything, I simply cannot deny how excited I am over the game. - O.G.

Is crowd funding the way of the future?

Absolutely. It gives power to the gamers by letting them pay for the games they want to see.
Nope. Crowd sourcing will be fine for a year or two until too many developers do not follow through with their games and waste our money.
