Today Square Enix had their 1st Production Dept conference detailing what they have in store for their games, namely the flagship of the company, Final Fantasy. And boy did Square drop a couple of surprises.
Japan (and eventually the rest of the world) will be hit with an onslaught of not one but five Final Fantasy titles this coming Spring/Summer: Dissidia 12, Final Fantasy Agito XIII (now known as Type-O) Final Fantasy V on the Virtual Console, Final Fantasy IV: The Collection (which has a release date of March 24), and the surprise of the show Final Fantasy XIII-2. That’s right XIII-2.
Dissida 12 officially announced Yuna (who was teased in the last trailer) and two new characters to the game: Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy V and Prishe from Final Fantasy XI. In addition to the roster update Square has also released a premium demo called Dissidia 012 Prologus for 300.
More news for FF Agito XIII finally was announced, as the game went under a name changed to Final Fantasy Type-0. The game will be released this Summer in Japan and will be shipped in two UMDS, which has some speculation to be a very large PSP game on UMD. The big announcement however was saved for Final Fantasy XIII-2. There was speculation that a spin off tittle was in the works when the domain finalfantasyxii-2.com was registered. This was not just only to be revealed as true, but announced that the game was nearing the end of production and will be released this Summer for the PS3 and Xbox 360. The game is being produced simultaneously on both systems to ensure that both are quality made and no delays are caused.
Final Fantasy wasn’t the only series to get new, as more info about the Kingdom Hearts 3Ds tittle was made known. Now known as Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance, the game is said to have players switch between Sora and Riiku.
Square showed trailers to all of the games in the conference and will make them available sometime between this week and next week. Fans have to wonder what is going on with Square to have the release so many FF titles within a year nd their reasoning for it. None of these titles have release plans for the West as of yet. Hopefully these games find their way to E3 this year to see what’s going on and if any one of them will make it to the West.
