The latest SimCity was to be the most ambitious entry in the franchise's 24 year history. With new and innovative ways to build a city and to interact with other player, SimCity was supposed to be a return to what made the franchise fun. Till servers went down during this past week, not letting players able to play the game at all, even single players due to it needing to be online at all times. This has angered all fans who were eager to build up cities with friends.
Maxis' general manager Lucy Bradshaw posted an update to the situation to the EA website. They have acknowledged that they didn't predict that they would get so many people to try to log in all at the same time when the game released. To combat this huge flow, they have increased server capacity by 120%. This has fixed a majority of the problems that were at launch, but they are still working to have everyone up and running.
In the meantime, starting March 18th, EA will be offering players one free game of their choice from their portfolio as a way to say sorry for the lengthy delay.
