President Obama opens CDC study of violence connecting with video games
Posted on January 16, 2013 by Drew Bergmark

Watching the 26 minutes speeches and signing cermony between Vice President Joe Biden & President Barack Obama, I've cut down a few things that you need to know about a new study that is opening up in the CDC (Center for Disease Control) to figure out if there are any connections between violence and video games. During the speach, he started making notes of creating barriers for those with mental illness around the ten minute mark on the YouTube video. After building up to his points, he says how he'll pass one of the executive orders to study mental illness and the affects of violent video games on the minds of several different individuals from different backgrounds.

President Obama continues to say that there is an epidemic of violence in the country but comparing from CDC standards, this just isn't true. As many news organizations across the country use the term very lightly to increase dramatic terminology for a certain story, the CDC describes an epidemic can only be caused when 7.2% of the country or area of the country is effected by an unnature occurance. To clarify this quickly, the population of the US is 315 million as less than ten thousand citizens have been killed in gun violence, meaning one in every thirty-two thousand citizens are killed. I think that's less than even a hundreth of a percent.

As sourced by SourceFed, the fourteenth executive order signed today says the following: "Issue a presidential memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence." While the president also remarked during his speach on continuing studies that were stopped previously, such an order doesn't exist in the information that was given to the press.
