Evo 2013 lineup includes 5 games from 2012, 2 new games and 1 Community Choice game
Posted on January 08, 2013 by OG

Wakeup Shoryuken, the official podcast of Shoryuken.com, has their annual Evo lineup announcement episode.  Joey "Mr. Wizard" Cuellar came on the show to announce the main games of the Evo 2013 Championship that will be happening July 12-14 in the Paris Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

The five games from last year will be returning: Street Fighter X Tekken(version 2013 will be used), Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition 2012, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, King of Fighter XIII, and Mortal Kombat 9.  In regards to SSF4AE2012, Mr. Wizard did state that if there's a new version  of Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition, the new version would need to be released by June at the latest.  Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Persona 4 Arena were the two new games added.  While Tekken Tag 2 was not much of a surprise as Tekken has always been represented in past Evo events, Persona 4 Arena was a concern for fans of the game since the tournament turnout for the game has been on a decline.

For the final game, it will be up to the players on what game will be included, but not by traditional means.  Last year, Shoruyken.com held a poll of games that players want to see for Evo 2013.  Those games that had the more than 500 votes will be the ones included in this Player's Choice.  Rather than voting on a poll or through social networks, charity donations will  decide what game will the last game included.  If players want to see their favorite game, they will need to donate to a breast cancer charity, and the game that had the most people donate will be selected.  Details on how to donate will be coming soon.

Finally, Mr. Wizard talked about the Road to Evo.  The Road to Evo was implemented back in 2011 to give local events a bigger spotlight as players can compete for Evo points that will give them a better bracket position at Evo.  Due to the large number of Road to Evo events last year, Mr. Wizard said they decided to reduce the number of events to just four events:  SoCal Regionals, NorCal Regionals, UFGT 9, and CEO 2013

More details will be coming over the next coming weeks and will be shown on the official Evo site.

What did you think of the Xbox One reveal?

It was awesome! I already have one pre-ordered!!
It could have been better, but I think there's potential.
Microsoft needs to get their shit together before I buy this thing.
This piece of junk is going to fail faster than Windows ME.
