More War Z controversy as developer denies refunds
Posted on December 03, 2012 by Nickolai Niver

The other day I posted news that covered a new controversy with zombie MMO, War Z. In a brief summary, one of War Z's volunteer forum moderators by the name of DevinH felt he had been vastly mistreated, and that the people at Hammerpoint Interactive were a bunch of ninnies. In an attempt to get both sides of the story, we emailed Hammerpoint for some clarity, but to no avail. That's a bit unfortunate for them as more and more people are getting aggravated with their services.

After DevinH's little rant, more War Z player began to get a little tense. One fellow who failed to get the game working posted his request for a refund and how it was turned down.

Another person with similar problems also posted a request for a refund, but was turned down for some pretty sketchy reasons. Namely, a claim that the developers LOST the payment info.

After a couple of refund requests, it was clear the developers had had enough. In a pretty set-in-stone-about-not-wanting-to-give-out-refunds message, a member of Xsolla support (the company currently responsible for in-game purchases as well as refunds) posted this message.

That's a little bit fishy, as last I recall, Hammerpoint got their TOS for War Z from Riot when they COPY & PASTED IT WORD FOR WORD. Here's the problem. If War Z copy/pasted the TOS, then their TOS probably shouldn't have anything in it regarding a request for a refund as League Of Legends is a free-to-play title. The only way this could be is if War Z now has a different TOS. If it did, shouldn't I have had to sign it fairly recently which would absolve them of giving me a refund if I wanted one? Obviously I wasn't the only one who thoughts this, because this fellow posted his very angry request for a refund.

It's completely within a game developer's right to deny a refund. Refunds are generally polite things a developer OCCASIONALLY does to keep a customer. It's not something you can request because you feel the developers are scum-bags.

My only concern here is that Hammerpoint Interactive has remained completely silent about all of this. While they haven't technically acted in the wrong in most of this, they also haven't said anything to defend themselves. DevinH has said some pretty condemning things, and these images obviously paint the developers in a negative light. My only hope in all of this is that we get some honest clarity, and not just mindless speculation. Right now, the only chance we have for an explanation is if DevinH's prediction is correct, and the War Z servers close after 6 months because they didn't get their intended bonus funding.

Update:  DevinH has since confessed that his claims regarding War Z were completely false.

What did you think of the Xbox One reveal?

It was awesome! I already have one pre-ordered!!
It could have been better, but I think there's potential.
Microsoft needs to get their shit together before I buy this thing.
This piece of junk is going to fail faster than Windows ME.
