Bioware founders retire, confirm new Mass Effect in the works
Posted on September 18, 2012 by MikeV

This week has been full of announcements from Bioware. Yesterday saw the announcement of Dragon Age 3: Inquisition. Today two announcements were made. One regarding the founders of Bioware and the other regarding the future of the Mass Effect franchise. The first announcement that was posted on the Bioware blog was that founders Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuck will be retiring from company to pursue interests and other projects that are not video game related.

In his farewell blog post, Dr. Muzyka explains that while making this decision to leave a company and an industry that he had a great passion for was hard, he felt that is was needed. Much like when he realized that video game development was the next chapter in his life when he was a practicing ER physician, he has come to a close at this chapter of his life, spend much earned time with family and wants to move on to a more entrepreneurial challenge.

As for Dr. Zeschuck, after working in a company he help create for over 2 decades, he felt that the passion for the games that Bioware has created over the years wasn't there anymore. This is something that all developers that have been in the industry for many years can relate to. As to what he will be doing next, he has stated that he plans to spend time with his family as well. He also states that he will not be coming back to the game industy, at least for a while. During that time, he will be working on a passion project of his called the Beer Diaries which focuses on notable brewers and their beers,

As for the announcment regarding the future of Mass Effect,  Aaryn Flynn stated in his blog post that series producer Cassy Hudson and his team are not quite done yet with the franchise. More multiplayer content will be released in the following months, in addition to new single player stories coming out throughout the next six months. This kick off of new single player DLC will start this fall with the release of Omega. But that's not all that's coming from Hudson and his team. Also revealed was that a brand new Mass Effect game is in the works and that they are working on  brand new IP built from the ground up using all new gaming technology.

We wish Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuck good luck and many successes on their new ventures as they depart Bioware as we wait in acticpation to what is coming up next with the Mass Effect franchise and Bioware's brand new IP.

What do you think about EA making Star Wars games?

If they get the right studios working on the games, they can be great!
I'll wait and see what they do with the franchise.
They're going to screw it worse than George Lucas screwed up the prequels!
