PAX Prime 2012: Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes revealed
Posted on September 01, 2012 by

Near the end of the Metal Gear 25th anniversary panel at PAX Prime 2012, Hideo Kojima surprised the next Metal Gear Solid game to the crowd. It wasn't Metal Gear Solid 5 as first thought, but a brand new entry called Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes. While those who attended the PAX panel got it see it first, it was later released a few hours later on Konami's You Tube Channel:

Ground Zeroes is running on Kojima Productions brand new game engine FOX and looks amazing. From the shine of the spotlights to the casting of the shadows and rain falling, everything is highly detailed. As for the story that the trailer sets up, this is what I speculate:

This section of the game takes places a few weeks after the events of Peace Walker. This is determined by the fact that one of the men speaking mentions that someone found Paz ten days later drifting in the Caribbean. She is picked up and taken to a camp on the southern tip of Cuba called Black site, but to us we know it as Guantanamo Bay Navel Base. This is proven by the fact that the US has been leasing that section of Cuba since the Spanish American War for coal mining, and installed a military base during World War II. These same men also mentioned Cipher aka Majoir Zero and how Paz is their only link to Cipher. As they are talking, we see a groud of men being driven along to a heilpad. The two men talking then mentioned that the MSF HQ, Motherbase is about to be inspected by the UN nuclear inspectors. As the men on screen get to the helipad we see what at first looks like the FOX emblem in the mirror, thus suggesting that it may be a reorganized FOX unit but when they exit the jeep, we see its actually XOF. The men that arrive on the jeep earlier board the chopper after covering the XOF logo that is on the side. Once the choppers leave we see Big Boss/Snake infiltrating the compound with the short phrase saying "From FOX, two phantoms are born". This might be in reference to Major. Zero's Patriots and Big Bosses MSF/Outer Heaven. The scene then ends with Snake infiltrating the compound and transitions into real time gameplay.

Now this is just all speculation on my part, but I think that all of this follows along to the cannon that has been set in place from previous games and could quite possibly lead up to Big Boss's eventually formation of Outer Heaven in South Africa. Even though Ground Zeroes is still years off, I am really excited to learn more about the Metal Gear mythos and see finally what pushes Big Boss over the edge to finally create Outer Heaven

What's your most anticipated game for April?

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D
Mortal Kombat X
State of Decay: Year One Survival Edition
