San Japan Mach 5 - Eduardo's Report
Posted on August 29, 2012 by

San Japan has hit the big time, with San Japan Mach 5 taking place at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and the nearby Grand Hyatt hotel.  I spent most of it at the table in the convention center where we talked with folks about the website, 2012, and Video Game Jeopardy.  Because we were in Mos Eisley with the rest of the scum and villainy in Con Alley, traffic was relatively light, but a good number of the OVER 9,000 attendees did drop by.

The convention center was great; it had plenty of space and was literally cool thanks to the awesome air conditioning.  There were plenty of dealers and artists to see and buy stuff from, lots of events and panels to participate in and the game room certainly looked bigger than in previous years.  While the event was split between the convention center and hotel, it was a short walk between the two and nowhere near as bad as the one-block walk between venues in the early years of the event.

Of course we weren't just there to look pretty and talk to people.  For the second year in a row we hosted’s Video Game Jeopardy.  After spending the previous day and a half telling attendees that we were going to be giving away free games, the event ended up being standing room only.  Getting our equipment set up was a breeze thanks to the staff.  We had a great time playing Jeopardy as the enthusiastic crowd cheered the contestants on and answered the questions they couldn’t.  Of course, some audience members also walked out of the room with free games and promotional items.

I heard about a few minor hiccups, but for us it went very well and I look forward to coming back next year with another laptop full of Video Game Jeopardy answers and questions.  I also wish to take this opportunity to thank the San Japan organizers for having us and to Gliese Games for stopping by to show off their new Xbox Live Indie Game ‘2012.’
