Two days ago, I posted an article about the Cheetahmen 2 Kickstarter that was started by Greg Pabich to fix the original Cheetahmen 2 code and reproduce NES carts of the game. Since then, the Kickstarter has raised more than $27,000 with 28 days to go, but there has been an increasing amount of disdain for the project due to its high goal and $60 reproduction carts. It appears that the backlash has reached the Angry Video Game Nerd, James Rolfe, and his partner, Mike Matei, who have now admitted it was a mistake.
On the official Cinemasscre YouTube Channel where Cinemasscre.com videos along with Angry Video Game Nerd Video are posted , Mike Matei, using the channel account JamesNintendoNerd, left comments on the Cheetahmen 2 Kickstarter pitch video stating that he does not believe in the project:
Okay, listen. This is Mike. I personally had nothing to do with this viddeo other than uploading it. James was aked to appear in it because he did the video about it. Neither of us gave it much though. Now looking at your comments, I've realized it was a mistake. I personally do not beleieve in this project. I don't understand why anyone would need 65k to make a hack games. Besides that, there's already a fixed version of the game floating around.
Matei then explains further on why the Angry Video Game Nerd appeared in the video:
Our mistake is that we didn't think about it. James was asked to do a cameo so he did it. Since James was in the video I uploaded it. We didn't bother to look into the detail of the project besides knowing some guy was making an NES game. Please remember, this is not our fundraiser.
Matei is attempting to remove the video form the channel, but has to seek approval first since there are other individuals involved with the video, notably retro reviewer Pat the NES Punk and the GameChasers who travel from city to city trying to find deals on retro games. As of this writing, the Cheetahmen 2 Kickstarter pitch video is still on the Cinemassacre YouTube channel, but ratings/comments have been disabled.

UPDATE: A new, unlisted video has appeared on the official Cinemassacre YouTube channel, JamesNintendoNerd. The video is of Greg Pabich explaining the price of the $60 NES carts, the same breakdown that was recently added to the Kickstarter page.
Along with the video comes an explaination from the Angry Video Game Nerd, James Rolfe, on why there was some confusion regarding his participation in the project:
I'd like to explain: On Cinemassacre, we usually run advertisements for things like Burger King or something like that, so when I was asked to promote a game that I reviewed as AVGN, it sounded like a cool idea. It was something I thought my audience would like. Admittedly, I didn't know much else about the project other than someone was re-releasing Cheetahmen 2. Just someone releasing a game. How could that go wrong? I got the script and filmed my part for the promo, while I had my head buried deep in the Schwarzenegger Games episode which I was working on at the time.
Over the past week, there's been a lot of fuss over the Cheetahmen thing, so I looked at the Kickstarter page for the very first time. I admit, I didn't understand the costs at first and I should have researched it beforehand, but when it was explained to me, it made more sense. Honestly, I've paid $60 for the Nintendo World Champion reproduction cart that you saw in the NWC episode and that game didn't come with a box or comic book. But I don't know a thing about game production. My suggestion is not to listen to internet rumors and jump to conclusions. Make your own judgement and only donate if you want a Cheetahmen game. The choice is yours. I'm truly sorry about any inconvenience.

While it does apear that Rolfe is continuing in supporting the project, there are some questions to be asked such as why is this video "unlisted" and can a guy who was so busy with his own videos, as well as many other projects, be so quick to make a cameo in a video because he thought it was "cool." Considering how few times Rolfe makes cameos in other videos, he selected this video to make a cameo?
As of this writing, the Cheetahmen 2 Kickstarter is at $35,625, passing the halfway point for the $65,000 goal with 24 days to go.
