In preparation for the North American release of the next chapter of the Kingdom Hearts saga, Square Enix has released a trailer introducing the Dream Eaters. The Dream Eaters, much like the Heartless and Nobodies, are born from the worlds that Sora and Riku visited during KH II. But unlike how the Heartless were created from the darkness from people’s hearts and the Nobodies were created when the hearts of people are taken over and turned into Heartless, the Dream Eaters are created from the dreams of the worlds that were put to sleep at the ends of KH II. They come in two forms, Nightmares and Spirits. Nightmares will be the ones that Sora and Riku will be fighting on their journey. The Spirits on the other hand are friendly and as the trailer shows, the two friends will be able to collect and recruit them to help in battle, a la Pokemon:
You'll be able to help Sora and Riku train, care and play with the Dream Eaters both in the game and using a set of AR cards. Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance is set for a July 31 release
