In another way to combat piracy, although you would think the "always online" requirement would suffice, Blizzard is forcing players into a 72-hour Starter Edition trial when you purchase a digital copy(Starter Edition) of the game. After you purchase the Starter Edition, you'll be limited to Act 1 up until the Skeleton King, a level 13 cap, matchmaking to only other Starter Edition players, no global play, and no access to the Auction House.
Since the update has gone live, players have found themselves unable to play or unable to level up their character as they await for the trial to be over. It's one thing to want to protect your game Blizzard, however, it's completely different to have someone purchase a product and be forced to play a demo of that product for three days.
