Namco Bandai announces release date and day one DLC fighters for Tekken Tag 2
Posted on May 24, 2012 by MikeV

After showing off the game for many, many months Namco Bandai has finally announced the release date for the highly anticipated Tekken Tag Tournament 2 in a press release. Fans of the series and of fighting games in general can expect to pick up their copy of the game September 10, 2012. TTT2 will come shipped updated with all of the character balances that are on the arcade version of the game and new modes. The first new mode is 1v1, which is just regular Tekken but using the TTT2 balances. The next mode is 1v2 or handicapped mode as I like to call it. Here one person can fight a team alone. Pair Play is one of the newer features in which four players can each control a fighter (similar to SF X T). The last of the new modes is called Fight Lab. Fight Lab is basically the training mode but players can customize the looks and moves of the training partner known as Combot.

In addition to all these new features, day one DLC, in the form of extra fighters, has been announced. Now before you start to yell out “OMG SCAMCO TRYING TO BE CRAPCOM!1!1 YOU THE SUXZZ!1!1”, here’s what Tekken Project director Katsuhrio Harada has to say:

Pleasing our fans is of paramount importance to the Tekken development team, therefore we are giving players full access to the wide array of fighters in TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 at no additional cost. The roster of playable characters in any fighting game is an essential factor in contributing to a player’s overall experience. By offering DLC characters at no additional cost to players, we are able to deliver a pure TEKKEN experience to all of our fans.

Looking at everything that TTT2 is offering, I think Namco is trying to make the game as tournament friendly as possible. Which is great for those who are in the FGC and those who love Tekken. Again the game is set to release September 10.

Exclusive DLC Fighters Available Day-One with Pre-Orders of Genre-Defining Fighter Releasing this September

San Jose, Calif., (May 24, 2012) – NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. today announced TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT2, the next installment in the award-winning fighting game franchise, will release to retailers worldwide the week of September 10, 2012 for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 will boast the largest roster of fighters in TEKKEN® history and fighting game fans who pre-order the game at select retailers can look forward to playing with additional DLC characters, Michelle Chang, Angel, Kunimitsu and Ancient Ogre immediately at launch.

On day-one of TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2’s launch, fans that placed their pre-orders with Amazon®.com and Best Buy® will gain access to the Michelle Chang & Angel characters, while players that placed their pre-orders through GameStop® will have exclusive access to fighters Kunimitsu and Ancient Ogre in addition to Michelle Chang and Angel.

“Pleasing our fans is of paramount importance to the TEKKEN development team, therefore we are giving players full access to the wide array of fighters in TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 at no additional cost,” said Katsuhiro Harada, TEKKEN Project Director at NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. “The roster of playable characters in any fighting game is an essential factor in contributing to a player’s overall experience. By offering DLC characters at no additional cost to players, we are able to deliver a pure TEKKEN experience to all of our fans.”

“NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. is working closely with retailers to secure exciting pre-order opportunities for TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 and deliver premium bonus character content to TEKKEN fans on launch day,” said Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing, NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. “We’re excited to unveil our exclusive pre-order partners for these well-known TEKKEN characters and hope to reveal even more exciting content in the near future.”

TEKKEN shattered fighting game genre barriers when it unveiled tag based combat with the release of TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT™ in 1999. TEKKEN TAG TOURNAMENT 2 continues to break boundaries with the introduction of one-on-one fighting and solo fighter vs. a tag-team battle. These new modes provide additional gameplay options for seasoned TEKKEN fans while providing an easier point of access to new players.

Additional modes include Pair Play, where up to four players can each control a character in the ultimate team battle and the new Fight Lab mode, which allows players to customize the moves and appearance of their training partner known as Combot. Players that clear the Fight Lab mode will have mastered the complexities of TEKKEN and will gain access to their own customizable Combot.

How has your Diablo III experience been so far?

Absolutely horrible with all the lag, Error 37s, and server downtime. Screw you Blizzard for making me wait so long for this.
Started off bad, but I've been having a lot of fun with it.
