Torchlight will come free with pre-order of Torchlight II
Posted on April 26, 2012 by Paige Carlson

Published by Runic Games, Torchlight II is now available for pre-order through both Perfect World Entertainment and Steam. However, if you pre-order through Steam ($19.99, or 4 for $59.99) you can get the original Torchlight for free. If you already own the original, you have the option to gift it. Torchlight II serves as both a sequel to Torchlight and as an opportunity for Runic Games to improve.

After getting feedback from players about the lack of a multi-player option, Runic Games listened. The summer 2012 release now offers both online and LAN co-op multiplayer for free. A new matchmaking service that’s offered will help players find friends, start games, or join others.

The Torchlight world has been expanded beyond simply Torchlight in the sequel to other towns and lands, and there is more ability to customize characters. There are four new classes: Outlander, Embermage, Berserker, and Engineer, all available in both male and female form with customizable cosmetics. The classes also allow for new skills and loot, so that each character is truly individualized.

With the level-randomization, each level is completely unique. Once the game is beat New Game Plus offers players to play a significantly more difficult game with the same character and the same loot. As if that weren’t enough, Torchlight II will come with the editor TorchED- which allows players to create their own mods and share them with friends. This action-adventure RPG also contains new pets and multiple new cinematic aspects.

Is crowd funding the way of the future?

Absolutely. It gives power to the gamers by letting them pay for the games they want to see.
Nope. Crowd sourcing will be fine for a year or two until too many developers do not follow through with their games and waste our money.
