In February, Capcom, SEGA and Namco Bandai had announced that they will be working on a crossover game that involved each of the publishers/developers characters. The only clue given at the time were petri dishes representing each of the companies. In those dishes were multicolored X chromosomes. Fans noted that these colored X’s resembled a meme on the internet that takes simple blocks of color and arranges them in a pattern that represent characters in video games and anime. As speculation on who was going to be in the game and what kind of game it was to be, a leak imaged of this week’s Famitsu revealed the game. The game is titled Project X Zone, and will be a 3DS strategy RPG. As for the cast the following characters were announced and from what game they were from:
Capcom
· Ryu and Ken (Street Fighter)
· Mega Man X and Zero (Mega Man X)
· Demitri (Darkstalkers)
· Dante (Devil May Cry)
· Chris and Jill (Resident Evil)
Sega
· Shinguji Sakura and Ogami Ichiro (Sakura Wars)
· Pai and Akira (Virtua FIghter)
· Kurt and Riela (Valkyria Chronicles)
· Ulala (Space Channel 5)
· Touma (Shining Force)
Namco Bandai
· Sanger Somvold (Super Robot Wars)
· Jin Kazama and Ling Xiaoyu (Tekken)
· Kos-Mos and T-elos (Xenosaga)
· Yuri and Estellise (Tales of Vesperia)
· Kaito and Black Rose (.hack)
A trailer for the game is set to be released sometime this month.
There was a similar game that was on the PS2 called Capcom X Namco, but wasn’t released here in the US due to licensing issues, since some of the characters had games/anime that were licensed and published by other companies. Looking at this list a majority of the characters have games that are owned, published, and localized by their respective companies. If these three could work out a deal that lets them each have a cut, I could see game getting brought over here to the West.
