GameStop employees ordered to remove coupons from Deus Ex: Human Revolution (UPDATE)
Posted on August 24, 2011 by Eduardo

The Consumerist has acquired a picture of an internal GameStop memo that asks employees to "remove and immediately discard the OnLive coupon from all Regular PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution."  The coupon allows purchasers to play the game via OnLive's cloud gaming service, which, like Steam, bypasses retailers completely.  Click the link below for the full memo:

UPDATE: Giantbomb received an email from a Gamestop emloyee that word has come from Gamestop corporate to pull all copies of the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution from the shelves to be recalled at later date.  It simply is not getting better with those guys.  Maybe next they'll give everyone a punch in the face when they trade-in games.  Oh wait, they do that already.

Original-Gamer reached out to OnLive for comment on this situation through their PR company Double Forte.  We were advised at this point, OnLive does not have a comment regarding the situation.

SECOND UPDATE: Square Enix has responded by issuing the following statement:

“As part of Deus Ex: Human Revolution’s boxed offering on PC, Square Enix included a third party coupon. GameStop was not made aware of this inclusion and Square Enix respects the right of GameStop to have final say over the contents of products it sells and to adjust them where they see fit in accordance with their policies.

Square Enix invites gamers who want to purchase the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution without additional coupons to buy the game at any one of over 4000 GameStop stores in North America or purchase a digital download copy online from gamestop.com”

What do you think about EA making Star Wars games?

If they get the right studios working on the games, they can be great!
I'll wait and see what they do with the franchise.
They're going to screw it worse than George Lucas screwed up the prequels!
