"Suda 51's Sdatcher" is Kojima's Snatcher project
Posted on July 08, 2011 by MikeV

On the Hideradio podcast this week, Hideo Kojima made an announcement that wasn't related to MGS for once. In his last podcast, he made mention of his trip to Mexico, post-E3 comments and teased an announcement about Snatcher. Now that he's back from his trip Mexico, he made an announcement that was sure a surprise. Most of you will remember this picture that he tweeted a few months ago of him having lunch with Goichi Suda, aka Suda51:

It turns out that Kojima is working on a Snatcher project, but it isn't a video game but a radio drama. And not just any radio drama, but a Suda51 written script. Kojima is on board as the planner, overall director and as the creator of the original work, Satoshi Yoshioka (one of the original artists for Snatcher) will be on board as character designer/illustrator and Grasshopper Manufacture's Akira Yamaoka, who just finished working on the music for the Shinji Mikami/Suda51 joint game Shadow of the Damned, will be working on the music.

This news is really out came out of left field so to speak. While its good to have some sort of announcement on the project relating to Snatcher, it leaves some fans scratching their heads. A radio drama? What's even more confusing (to me at least) is the addition of Satoshi Yoshioka as the character designer and illustrator. Since it will be a radio drama, why have a character designer and illustrator on board? Unless there's more to it than what Kojima is letting on. It seems that big name developers teaming up is a growing trend in Japan. Either way, a team up of Kojima, Suda51, and Yamaoka sounds interesting even though it's a radio drama. The first episode of Suda51's Sdatcher will be released during the 300 episode of the Hideradio podcast

Is crowd funding the way of the future?

Absolutely. It gives power to the gamers by letting them pay for the games they want to see.
Nope. Crowd sourcing will be fine for a year or two until too many developers do not follow through with their games and waste our money.
