Takashi Miike, know for awesome movies like Ichi the Killer, hinted at the Cannes Film Festival that his next movie would be a "very light comedy that I am filming now, a court drama, based on a video game, the Nintendo game DS." Capcom has confirmed the rumors with a press release stating that, in fact, a Phoenix Wright movie is in development.
Pictured above is the actor that will play the lead role of Phoenix Wright. A few other actors have been confirmed as well: rival prosecutor, Miles Edgeworth, will be played by Mr. Takumi Saito. Phoenix's assistant and spirit medium Maya Fey will be played by Ms. Mirei Kiritani.
Phoenix Wright has already been adapted into a manga, as well as a stage musical, performed by the famous Takarazuka Revue, an all-female acting troupe. While I've been looking forward to the possiblity of an anime, a live action movie would be the next best thing. Be on the look out for the inevitable fan sub in Spring 2012.
