Austin Comic Con - Mike's Report
Posted on November 22, 2010 by OG

Last weekend I had the chance to attend the Austin Comic Con with OG, and fellow writers Eduardo and Kyle. I was pretty excited to go, since this was supposed to be a bigger comic con than the one that was held in San Antonio this past June. As we made our way into the Austin Convention Center, I discovered the comic con wasn’t what I expected.

Austin Comic-Con was pretty different from other conventions that I’ve attended. For one thing, the age range was higher, with adults in their early 30s and above as the majority of the attendees. Another thing was that this convention was totally dedicated to comic books and pop culture. Not that this was a bad thing; I love comics with Marvel being my favorite publisher. There was a booth that was selling Japanese related media, but other than that, American comics dominated the convention. As for the guest selection, it was varied from TV to movies. The highlight of the whole convention was the Adam West and Burt Ward panel. Other guests included a couple of wrestlers from TNA and WWE, Ernie Hudson from Ghostbusters, Billy Dee Williams from Star Wars, the cast from Human Centipede and many others from TV shows before my time.

For being a comic and pop-culture convention, the Austin Comic Con skipped over the video games. They should have at least had arcade cabinets running classic 80’s and 90’s arcade games, or since this is a comic convention, a few comic inspired arcade games.

Like I said in my Texas Comic Con report, the best part of the Austin Comic Con and any comic con in general is the vendor area. Vendors from all over Texas and the US came down to offer their wares, new, old and rare. Sadly, I was low on cash that day and couldn’t partake in any bargain hunting. This was a good lesson for next time; bring enough cash to buy stuff.

All in all, Austin Comic Con was pretty fun for its first year. Other than no video game representation and the lack of having money to buy items, I had a really good time. I look forward to attending next year with a wallet full of money!

What did you think of the Xbox One reveal?

It was awesome! I already have one pre-ordered!!
It could have been better, but I think there's potential.
Microsoft needs to get their shit together before I buy this thing.
This piece of junk is going to fail faster than Windows ME.
