Recently, the rarest game for the NES, Stadium Events, has been in the news as of late. Two weeks ago, the game sold for $13,105 and this past week it sold for an incredible $41,300. Now, another auction has appeared on ebay raising the price to over $800,000. Whether the auction is a joke, or more than likely the bids are fake, we will have to see.
For those that are wondering why this game is so rare, you can blame Nintendo for it. Stadium Events was released by Bandai in 1987 for their floor mat that would be later known as the Power Pad. Nintendo purchased the rights to the game and the mat, and the title of the game was changed to the more well known name, World Class Track Meet. Nintendo had the copies of Stadium Events pulled from the shelves in the U.S. with only a small number actually sold, hence the rarity. So if you grew up in the NES era, you probably played World Class Track Meet making it probably the rarest game that millions of people have already played.
