Trauma Center: Under the Knife Review
Trauma Center: Under the Knife was released for both the Nintendo DS and Wii. Now THIS game is very interesting. This Nintendo Wii version takes the DS version and grows it up to your tv. You follow and control the actions of Derek Stiles, a young surgeon who tends to slack off and take his job not so seriously. Stiles is what they call in the medical world a Resident. This is where Derek must prove himself to be a great surgeon. But being a slacker and a very young guy he seems to be easily distracted unless the nurse puts him in line. During this time the recent nurse is being called away and a young, beautiful nurse comes in named, Angie. Angie is a no nonsense kind of girl who is devoted to her career and takes it very seriously. When Derek and Angie meet it calls for a great story line and tons of conflict at the beginning. The game starts off with you playing as Derek, performing some simple surgeries to get you familiar with the basics of the game and the tools provided. During your first couple of surgeries the previous nurse and Angie are there to give you step by step instructions on what to do with your patient. Now as the game progresses Angie will not tell you what to do, because by this time you must know every tool and be able to perform with the skills you have obtained. Later on, you begin utilizing the Healing Touch, which slows down time for you to concentrate and work more efficiently on the task at hand. Think of it as another version of Bullet Time(On a more personal note, if you don't know what Bullet Time is then why would you even visit a site like this). If you don't succeed in the surgery, then your patient dies. With the Wii remote, it will act as your main tool. Whether you stich, clean, or cut, moving the wii remote around in a set fashion to complete the job. You have to use a steady set of hands to keep the Wii remote just right to complete your functions. Graphics look very cartoonish, and characters again lets go with anime-ish but in a good way. The actual surgeries themselves look remarkably like the real life procedures with more colors and not as messy. It shows you being able to cut into the patient as well as removing obstructions and/or gross green pus filled wounds. Well as far as graphics go I wish I could go more into detail but with Trauma Center that's about as much as there is. The music is very suspenseful, setting the right mode for you to get the job done. After a while, you may need to have your own real life assistant give you a towelette for your forehead with all the tension. Trauma Center: Under the Knife is both challenging and fun. Kind of like Operation but without the goofy naked white guy. So go get this game you're afraid of real blood or don't want to spend hours and hours in med school only just to become a medical assistant.
