Question of the Month: What do you want for Christmas?
Posted on November 30, 2011 by OG

It's holiday shopping time and the Original Gamer staff talk about what they want for Christmas.
This year I hope I get Rayman Origins. In a sea of big name titles, all the Skyrims, Battlefields, and Zeldas of the world, Rayman Origins is offering a totally unique 2D platforming experience that is not only a joy to play, but like a creamy HD sprite-based feast for the eyes. Titles like these are what keep me gaming, and it comes out a year after the fantastic Donkey Kong Country Returns which I am completely immersed in right now. Rayman continues to prove that there is still room for good old fashioned hardcore 2D gaming - a lesson I'd still really like Sega to learn, despite their recent success with Sonic Generations. - Joel

Ah, the age old question of what do I want for Christmas. My first choice would be a Tablet, preferably a Toshiba Thrive that has full-sized HDMI and USB ports. Packaged with it would be an OnLive controller. After reading about what Cloud gaming could do, I’m interested in the platform. I’d also use it to get a bit more stuff done when I’m not near my laptop. If I don’t get that, money to buy myself games is always a good option. A gift card to either Best Buy or GameStop will do. - Mike V.

I'd like to go on the record as saying this is a silly question because as adults, we should be able to get whatever we want whenever we want, so I'm going to shoot a little higher and say I would like a new television. I currently own a basic 32-inch 720p, so an upgrade to a 42-plus inch 1080p 120Hz set would definitely make the games and movies I play look much more awesome. When you've got a good job, you are Santa! - Eduardo

The latter third of 2011 has been one of the strongest in recent memory for AAA titles, with heavy-hitters such as MW3, Saints Row: The Third, Uncharted 3, and Assassin’s Creed all launching within the space of a month. Then you have the ultimate time-sink, Skyrim, which blows all other games out of the water with the extent of its atmosphere, drama and sheer scale. I’ve already picked up quite a few of these games (due to a complete lack of financial willpower), so the one present that I’m going to ask for, and probably will not get enough of, is time to fully immerse myself into them. - Jack

It took several months, but I think the time has finally come to jump into a new gaming system. That’s right, now is the time to get a Nintendo 3DS. With Super Mario Land 3D, Ocarina of Time 3D, Cave Story 3D and the upcoming Mario Kart 7 on the way, there are actually a substantial amount of games I want to play for the 3DS now. The way I figure, these games should tide me over just long enough until the release of Resident Evil Revelations. Of course, my dilemma then becomes how to balance the three portable systems I own as there are still plenty of PSP and DS games that I want to finish. - O.G.
