Don King Presents Prizefighter Review

June 10th 2008, I noticed a new boxing game was released and being a fan of boxing and fighting games I had high expectations waiting for this one to come out and when it did I decided to wait it out. Hearing nothing but bad reviews I decided to put it off a while. When I decided to buy it it was $20 was it worth it? Well let me explain.

Prizefighter's campaign is supposed to be like a documentary about your character and its real people talking about it. Its pretty cool but there's not much really to say. A lot of it is over acted or just stupid. So lets move on.

The gameplay in this game in a short answer is awful. Prizefighter has poor hit detection and crappy controls really bring this game down and just make it bad. The character animations are terrible and its just frustrating cause I tried to enjoy this game but even with all these flaws the AI in it is cheap as fuck. The AI will save up 3 power hits and use them all at once which will take you out and you can't get back up.

You might be asking what a power punch is, Well I'll tell you. Its when you land enough successful punches your special hit bar fills up and when it gets 1/4th of the way full you can hit one strong hit and even if you miss your special punch bar is gone which is very frustrating. When your successful enough to knock somebody out you'd expect some awesome knockout right? Well there isn't one. Most of the time you'll miss your target and punch there arm or punch they're shoulder. Generally the game just isn't fun which is a big problem.

Another thing to complain about is the roster of characters, I've barely heard of anyone in this game, That's probably because everyone is signed to EA but then why did they even make this game? I don't want to play with some no name boxers, There's only 3-4 guys I've even heard of and none I want to play as.

Lets talk about visuals and sound, Being honest it looks like shit it looks like it could've been done on PS2. The character models have very little detail. The blood effects for when you punch somebody in the mouth are bad. Character damage over time in the game looks like its from a budget horror movie, and the arena's way to undetailed.

For sound lets start with the music, Its very bad music I'm not a fan of rap but this is just awful rap and its hard on the ears. The sound effects are very bad. Punching sounds like your hitting a stack of steaks, and when your character grunts he sounds like he's trying to go to the washroom.

After you play this game for more then an hour there's really no reason to ever play it again. Sure there's online but would anybody actually play this game online? I certainly hope not. Overall this game plays like crap, looks like crap, sounds like crap...it basically is crap, It deserves nothing better then the mark I'm giving it. Take my word on this and steer far away from this game.
